Staying motivated in general can be tricky. Whether you’ve been surfing since before you could walk, or you’ve just started out on your surfing journey, here are some tips and tricks to always stay stoked, regardless of the conditions or your crazy hectic schedule.
1. Keep fit
The perfect time to start anything is right now. Stop putting off those trips to the gym. Reach for an apple instead of a chocolate, your body will thank you later for it. Having a healthy exercise and nutrition routine will help you to stay positive and will also increase your motivation to keep going. With continuous effort, you’ll start to notice a significant improvement in your surfing.
2. Set goals
It could be perfecting your pop-up, nailing your turns or even progressing to riding green walls. Start small and be realistic.
3. Stay connected
Keep in communication with others who share your love for surfing. Constantly talking about rad experiences will keep you inspired. Even better, plan surfing hangouts with your best mates.
4. Plan your next surfing trip
Nothing quite compares to this one. Make sure that you leave yourself enough time to prepare and plan it properly, to avoid feeling rushed and under pressure (Cue Queen song). Also make sure that you pick a destination that's suitable for your skills and budget.
5. Save money & make money
Set money aside every month for something surfing related. Go through older equipment that you no longer use or you've outgrown. Either sell it online or to that kid down the road whose just started out.
6. Continue to learn
Read, watch, research. Fully immerse yourself in the world of surfing. The internet is full of information, make the most of it.
7. Stay creative
Whether you're into arts and crafts, cooking or handy work around the house, use your talents to expand on your love for the ocean in general. Make something with all of that driftwood you've picked up, or make a collage with pictures from your favorite surfing trips. Inspire yourself.
8. Be near water
Make it your mission to feel the calming benefits of water, even if it's not the ocean specifically. The sound of flowing water has the power to literally heal your soul.
9. Keep up with the tour
No better way to feel inspired by fellow surfers than by watching the professionals. Figure out their specific styles, strengths and weaknesses. This will motivate you to just keep on trying. Watch both men and women, because women kick ass too, bru!
10. Make a choice
Ultimately, it’s your personal decision to stay stoked. Constantly try new things and go on new adventures to ignite that stoke deep within you.
